Claude Giroux - Philadelphia Flyers

In preparation for the upcoming season I am going to feature one player from every team in the NHL. Goalies are excluded because they’re interesting enough to garner a feature of their own so look forward to that as round 2.

#28 Claude Giroux – Philadelphia Flyers – Center

I’m giving advance warning here, I am ridiculously crazy about Claude Giroux and he’s my favorite ginger in the world. If you thought my other post have been a little too “fangirl” you will want to stop reading right now.

The Past
Claude was born in Ontario then moved to Quebec to play in the QMJHL, winning the President’s Cup in 2008 with the Gatineau Olympiques. He then went on to win gold with Canada in the 2008 World Juniors. Damn Giroux, 2008 was a good year for you!

Giroux went 22nd overall to the Flyers in the 2006 draft and Bob Clarke forgot his name. Poor kid! Look at that adorable little face, so sweet, so innocent, so obviously prior to his weird friendship with BizNasty.

And yeah, this is Claude today. I love how natural he looks in this picture, just chillin by some rocks with his stick…WTF Giroux?  That is just weird.

The Love
Giroux is a freakin badass. He centers the Flyers first line and scored 93 points last year – damn he’s good. He’s a smart player and doesn’t back down to anybody even though he isn’t the biggest guy on the ice. Check out the video below. Screw you NHL for making these “Because It’s the Cup” videos.  They get me all pathetic and emotional. This video has over 43,000 views and probably 40,000 are me – UGH.

To understand the perfection which is Claude Giroux you really just have to see him play. The video below shows some great Giroux highlights and is all around fan-fucking-tastic with some funny off-ice moments as well. And yeah, there are 3 seconds of Danny Briere at the very end – swoon!!!

Yeah, that video is practically porn to me and I believe it is impossible to watch and not want to bang Claude Giroux. He is fast, aggressive, has sick stick handling, and I agree with Lavy that Claude Giroux is the best player in the world. Apparently so do the fans because Giroux was the winner, the fan voted winner, to be on the cover of NHL13. I don’t even like video games but I’m totally buying this one.

The Hate
I don’t hate a single thing about Giroux. Claude Giroux = the perfect man and the best player in the world.  If you can think of something to hate about him let me know but be prepared for me to show up at your house and kick your ass. Yeah, I’ve got Claude’s back like that.

Let’s Get Scrappy
Claude is a smaller guy but he’s physical as hell. He doesn’t necessarily get in a lot of fights but he also doesn’t back down - ever. Let’s see what he’s got.

Feed the Inner Fangirl/Fanboy

In 2010 Claude Giroux moved in with Danny Briere and my inner fangirl swooned. I openly admit my Briere crush to anyone who will listen so this shouldn’t be a surprise. But seriously, check out the video below so you can understand how absolutely adorable they are.

I love that Giroux lived a quiet life with Danny and the boys instead of whoring himself around Philly with Richie and Carts (don’t take that the wrong way, they are beauties and will be featured in a future post). In part because of videos like the one above, Danny & Claude have managed to inspire a lot of fanfiction so if that is your thing, check it out. I’m pretty sure I’ve read every single fic out there about them. Hot, hot, hot! (If by some odd turn of events either of their moms, or Danny's kids, are reading this please ignore those last few sentences. It is for your own good) OK, let’s move on from Danny & Claude delightfulness because I could go on forever about how cute they are and how sad I was when Claude moved out.

OK, I lied about being finished, but look how adorable they are in their plaid shorts!!!!

I swear that was the last one. But take a moment to admire that flirtatious smile he’s shooting Danny. Let’s take another moment and pretend it says Saucer on the back of that jersey instead of Briere…even better!

Giroux is on twitter and although he doesn’t tweet nearly enough for my liking what he throws down is epic. Check out the tweet he sent just a matter of days ago when his fellow ginger, Voracek, signed his new contract:

Over 1,200 retweets, wow, obviously life is good when you are the greatest player in the world. @28CGiroux - follow him, you won’t be disappointed.

Kisses!
~ Saucer
